Renmark Club History.
The Renmark Club has been the focal point for the local community since 1909. Renmark’s early English settlers built a traditional ‘Gentlemen’s Club’, where they could enjoy each others company, and read the latest news from London, as they sat around in comfortable leather chairs, and were waited on by a steward. Women were banned from the club until the early 1960’s, and even then they had very limited access. From the 1970′s the focus of the club started to change to what is now a mixed membership with an accent on family participation and visitors most welcome.
Lawn bowling was first played in Renmark on greens established on the hotel side of the club and in 1926 the Renmark Club Bowling Club was formed. Annual carnivals were popular state events over the years, however the greens were removed and the river frontage opened to the public in 1997.
The redevelopment of the Club in 2006 provides a venue that now has a wider appeal to the community, with an enlarged function/dining area & bar, greater access and usable external spaces maximising the views of the Murray River. The Renmark Club is central to Renmark situated on absolute water frontage.
The Renmark Club prides itself on its membership, family participation, welcoming of visitors, and its active involvement in community support, events and investments. The Renmark Club has long been the major sponsor of sporting clubs and community events.
The Renmark Club has won several awards from Clubs SA in previous years.
In 2009 The Renmark Club was Awarded …….The Club of the Year, the Most Improved Club and the Spirit of the Club Movement Awards.
2010 the Club as awarded The Club of the Year and Best Club Operations and in the recent 2011 Club Sa Awards The Renmark Club was awarded the Club of the Year for the 3rd Consectutive Year as well as the Best Club Operations for the 2nd year. A great Credit to a terrifc venue.
The redevelopment of the Club in 2014 saw the dining room enlarged to seat 450 guests, which regularly books out over the summer period. A kids club was built to entertain the kids, so familys could have a relaxing dining experience. This room includes, TV’s, xbox and playstations, books and lego. The gaming room was fully upgraded allowing space for 40 of the latest gaming machines.
The latest major renovation was completed in 2019, with a state of the art kitchen, lounge bar and all new furniture and carpet.
A lot has changed over the 100 years as has the face of The Renmark Club. From a Simple Gentleman’s club, to a thriving family friendly business.
